· Open and respond to all mail from your lender

· Know your mortgage rights

· Understand foreclosure prevention options

· Contact a HUD-approved housing counselor

· Prioritize your spending

· Use your assets

· Avoid foreclosure prevention companies

· Don’t lose your house to foreclosure recovery scams!

5 Tips for Avoiding Foreclosure Scams

1. Work only with a nonprofit, HUD-approved counselor.

2. Avoid anyone that asks for a fee in advance or tells you to stop

paying your mortgage and pay them instead".

Be wary of “guarantees.”

4. Know what you are signing—and be sure you sign it.

5. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
