LIBRARY PROCEDURES

OBTAINING A CARD

  • Residents residing within the City limits
    of De Soto

Adults fill out application card. Show proof of identity and residency.  Cards will be issued to children when they are 6 years old or in the first grade. Children under 16 years of age must have parent or guardian signatures.  When there are several cards issued to members of an individual family it is suggested that the total number of books checked out at one time would not exceed 25.  This will make it possible to circulate more books to more people if you take only what you can read in a two-week period.

  • Non-Residents Cards
Anyone living outside of De Soto City limits may obtain a non-resident card by filling out the application and paying a fee of $20.00 per year, or $5.00 for 3 months.  Cards are issued one to a family.  It is suggested that no more than 15 books can be checked out at any time on a card.

  • All Applications
Library cards should be presented each time library materials are checked out.  LIBRARY CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE.  Each borrower is held responsible for any items checked out on his/her card, and for all fines accruing for the same.

RENEWING BOOKS
Library materials (except videos) are issued for a two week PERIOD.  They may be renewed by phone for an additional two weeks.  BOOKS THAT ARE ON A WAITING LIST CANNOT BE RENEWED.  There is an answering machine service during the time the library is closed.  Fines are charged a 5 cents per day per item, except videos which are $1.00 for every 3 days overdue.  Please return your library materials even if you cannot pay the fines at the present time.
