Gary J. Belt, age 57, passed away on April 3, 2007. He was born the son of the late Mearl J. Belt and Catherine (nee Bourisaw) of DeSoto. He is survived by his children: Jon Belt, Julie (Steve) Dunn and Jennifer Belt and sister Ruth (Dennis) Carlton. He is preceded in death by his brother Anthony Belt. Ruth Pinson, 85, of Fenton died April 7,
2007, in St. Louis. Mrs. Pinson was a teacher for St. Louis Archdiocese Schools
and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto. Born March 14,
1922, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Sarah
Ann Politte. She is survived by her husband of 6o years, Lawrence Pinson of
DeSoto; two sons: Robert (Emma) Pinson of Wildwood and Dennis Pinson of Fenton;
two daughters: Lisa (Butch) Feagans of St. Louis and Jeanne Sweet of Eureka; two
brothers: Walter Politte of St. Louis and Daley Politte of St. Louis; one
sister, Ethel Boyer of Potosi; and four grandchildren: Schott Pinson of St.
Louis, Sara Feagans of St. Louis, Eric Feagans of St. Louis and Jason Sweet of
Springfield, MO. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and six
sisters. Visitation was on April 10, 2007 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with
the funeral services beginning at 1:00p.m., St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church,
officiated by Father Ron Hopmeir. Burial was in Calvary Mausoleum in DeSoto.
Memorials may be made to W. A. C. Industries, 8520 Mackenzie Road, St Louis,

John "Jack" Goodwin, 83 of DeSoto died April
9, 2007, in Crystal City. Mr. Goodwin was a truck driver for Maclay Concrete Co.
and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto. A World War II
veteran of the U.S. Marines, he was a member of VFW, AmVets, Knights of Columbus
and Teamsters. Born June 17, 1923, in DeSoto, he was the son of the late John L.
and Blanche Goodwin. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Shirley) Goodwin of
DeSoto; one son, Daniel (Donna) Goodwin of Festus; one daughter: Janet Goodwin
of DeSoto; one stepson, Robert Boehn Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two stepdaughters;
Shirley (Frank) Farrell of Alabama and Annette (David) Schabbing of Cpe
Girardeau; three grandchildren: Daneen (C.J.) Herbert of Wildwood, Dawn (Drew)
Null of Festus and Doug (Lisa) Goodwin of Festus; six step grandchildren:
Jessica, Erica, Veronica and Victoria Schabbing of Cape Girardeau and Jacob and
Jasmine Roberts of Cape Girardeau; and eight great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Goodwin. Visitation held on Monday
April 11, 2007, from 5:00 pm – 8:00pm at Mahn Funeral Home, Desoto Chapel.
Funeral services were held April 12, 2007 10:00A.M. , St. Rose of Lima Catholic
Church, officiated by Father Ron Hopmeir. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in

Carol A. Oliver, 64, of DeSoto died April 12,
2007, in DeSoto. Mrs. Oliver was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts and flowers.
Born May 19, 1942, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Mildred (Hager) Kent of
Marble Hill and the late Milburn J. Sweazea. In addition to her mother, she is
survived by one son, Bradley Coley of Fulton, Mo.; two daughters: Traci (Roy)
Wilson of Missouri and Donnette Brewer of Monticello, Il.; three brothers:
Milburn Sweazea of Winfield, Michael (Gloria) Swazea of St. Louis and Steven
(Vicki) Sweazea of DeSoto; five sisters: Sharon (John) Taylor of S. Louis, Cindy
(Steve) Miller of Michigan, Pamela (Donnie) Wesbecher of Marble Hill, Melinda
Coleman of St. Charles and Jamie Lynn Sweazea of Marble Hill; and her companion,
Troy Farris of DeSoto. She was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Bertagnolli;
one brother, George Corey; and one sister, Glenda Sweazea. Visitation from 11:00
A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Mahn Funeral Home, DeSoto Chapel with her funeral
services at 1:00P.M., April 14 , 2007, officiated by the Rev. Gene Moses. Burial

DeSoto passed away April 20, 2007 in DeSoto. Mr. Patterson was a driver for
Brings Security Company and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also a
member of American Legion Post 253 in Festus. born Feb 2, 1943, in St. Louis, he
was the son of the late Daphine and Fay (Braun) Patterson. He is survived by his
wife, Janet I. (Barnett) Patterson of DeSoto; three daughter: Coylene (Brian)
Smith of DeSoto, Sherryle (Christopher) Waitrovich of Hillsboro and Ruth (Randy)
Watson of Hillsboro; one brother, Jack (Sharon) Patterson of Hillsboro; one
sister, Deborah (Donald) Hoff of St. John, MO; eight grandchildren: Jennifer,
David, Chelsea, Larry, Brianna, Cole, Garrett and Shelby; and several nieces and

Connie L. Ahrens, 66, of DeSoto died April
30, 2007, in St. Louis. Mrs. Ahrens was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling
and gardening. Born Dec 17, 1940, in Ellington, MO., she was the daughter
of the late Clayton and Floy (Willis) Asberry. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Robert Ahrens. She is survived by three sons: Van (Susan) Pender of
California, Scott (Sharon) Pender of Ohio and Manuel Martin: two
daughters: Debra Schmidt of Fen ton and Renee (Edward) Berry of Arcadia, MO.,
four brothers: Elva Asberry of Antonia, Dale Asberry of Farmington; one sister,
Velma Duffy of Illinois; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.She was
preceded in death by two brothers: Dwai n and Gene Asberry; and one sister, June
Cook. Funeral services were held May 3 at Mahn Funeral Home, officiated by the
Rev. Eugene Bowerman. Bural was in the Oakland Baptist Cemetery in DeSoto.

Staff Sgt. Brandon L. Wallace, 27, of Festus died April 14, 2007, in Fallujah, Iraq, while on active duty with the U.S. Army. Sgt. Wallace was a 1998 graduate of Crystal City High School, and was an accomplished musician, chef and photographer. He has been awarded the Purple Heart.
