Shirley Jene (Berry) Johnson , 70, of
Hillsboro (formerly of Victoria) passed away Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at Jefferson
Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, MO. She was a Dept Manager for Wal-Mart
Stores in Festus and DeSoto area. Born June 3, 1937, in Steele, MO, to the late
James Rufus and Hazel Dale (Lechenet) Berry. She is survived by a daughter,
Gwendolyn Johnson and a son, Michael Todd Johnson; one brother: Charles Berry;
four grandchildren: Jennifer, Jeremy, Jason and Rachel; and six great
grandchildren: Gage, Lily, Caitlyn, Kayla, Colbie and Parker. Ms Johnson was
cremated and a private service was held. Arrangement were by Mahn Twin City

Leo G. Kidd, age 89, of Hillsboro, Missouri
passed away on Sunday February 3, 2008,at his home in Hillsboro. Born February
15, 1918, in Cedar Hill, Missouri. He worked on his parent’s farm and part-time
at the agricultural office in Hillsboro under the direction of Ms. Leona Gasche.
He was drafted in the Army on October 16, 1942. After boot camp, he was assigned
to the base in Fort Knox Kentucky for tank training. He was deployed in the
European Theatre during World War II and was part of the Seven-Thirty-Seven Tank
Battalion serving under General Patton. He was injured in the line of duty and
was a Purple Heart Recipient. After many notorious battles and the War was
declared over; he arrived home on October 23, 1945. Leo came home to visit with
Ms. Gasche in the agricultural office and met Annette Hopson, who was employed
in that office. Leo and Annette were married October 15, 1947. President Harry
S. Truman appointed him Postmaster of Hillsboro in November of 1951. He served
in that capacity until his retirement in 1979. Leo served as an Alderman for the
City of Hillsboro for twenty-nine years, he also served as the Treasurer for the
City of Hillsboro, he was a past President of the Hillsboro Civic Club, served
as Chairman of the Hillsboro Horse Show and Fair, he was a past President and
long-time member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, past President of the Tri-County
Postmasters Association, a member of Amvets Post #48, DeSoto, Missouri, he was a
past board member and President of Meramec Mutual Insurance and served as
Director Emeritus, he was also a member of the 1st Baptist Church of
Hillsboro, where he served on various committees. Leo was also a farmer and a
third-generation owner of the family farm. Leo is survived by his wife, Annette
H. Kidd (nee Hopson) of Hillsboro, Missouri, his daughter Janet Grannemann of
Hillsboro, Missouri, his granddaughter, Lisa (Daniel) Hunning (nee Grannemann)
of Wentzville, Missouri, his nephew, Bruce (Linda) Hopson, of St. Louis,
Missouri and his great nephew, Andrew Charles Hopson, also of St. Louis,
Missouri. Leo was a friend to all who knew him. Leo was preceded in death by his
parents, William Grover and Anna E. Kidd (nee Bohle), a brother, Hubert Kidd,
brother-in-law, Charles Hopson, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hopson. Visitation:
will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2008, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at the Robert D.
Brown Funeral Home Inc. 103 Fourth St. Hillsboro, Missouri 63050. Funeral will
be Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of
Hillsboro, with Visitation at the Church from 9:00 AM until the 10:00 AM

Lucille Fern Choate (nee Brookman-Minney),
age 93 passed away on February 2, 2008 at the Villas in DeSoto Missouri. She was
a self-employed Seamstress and an avid bowler. Survived by her son James Owen
Choate Sr. of Texas, she was also a grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt.
Preceded in death by her husband-Owen C Choate Sr., sons- Ralph E. Choate and
Owen Clifford Choate Sr. Interment will be private in the Shepherd Hills

CECELIA E. OTT,
94, of DeSoto passed away February 6, 2008 in Crystal City. Mrs. Ott was a
homemaker and enjoyed cooking, playing cards, fishing and farming. She was
a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto. Born March 21,
1913, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Matilda (Greubel)
Vonderhaar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael A. Ott. She
is survived by six sons: Howard (Linda) Ott of DeSoto, Chester (Nancy) Ott
of Farmington, Norvel (Donna) Ott of DeSoto, Lloyd (Gail) Ott of DeSoto, Russell
(Brenda) Ott of DeSoto and Wayne (Julie) Ott of DeSoto; three daughters: Arene
Hoeffner of Imperial, Mary Ann (Doyle) Poncet of DeSoto and Sandy (Mike) Murphy
of Crystal City; one sister, Vi Cerutti of Texas; 31 grandchildren; and 38
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Agnes
Theiss and Lucille Haberstroh; six brothers: Fritz Vondehaar, Leo Vondehaar,
Hans Vonderhaar, George Vondehaar, Harry Vonderhaar and Gene Vondehaar; two
sons-in-law: Leonard Hoeffner and John Bayer; and two grandsons: Nick and Mark
Ott. Funeral services were held February 9, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic
Church, officiated by the Rev. R on Hopmeir. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in

CARRIE B. MUELLER LANCASTER,
79, of DeSoto, passed away February 7, 2008 in DeSoto. Mrs. Lancaster was
a nurse's aid at Festus Manor Nursing Center. She was a member of Rose of
Sharon Full Gospel Temple. Born May 15, 1928, in St. Louis, she was the
daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Tucker) Hale. She was preceded in
death by two husbands: Forrest Mueller and John Lancaster. She is survived by
two sons: Roy B. (Tina) Mueller of DeSoto and Frank (Kathy) Mueller of
Bloomsdale; one sister, Geraldine Skagg of Potosi; three grandchildren: Joshua
Mueller, Betsy Mueller and Kelly Mueller; and two great-grandchildren: Alex
Mueller and Madelyn Mueller. She was preceded in death by one so n,
Delbert Mueller; two sisters: Fern LaBelle and Ruth Beard; and two siblings:
June Hale and Joe Hale. Funeral services were held February 12, 2008 at Mahn

away Feb 8, 2008 at his residence. He worked as a machinist at INDEECO Co in
Brentwood, MO. He was a member of Teamster Local 688 and collected Anheuser
Busch beer steins. Born Aug 17, 1953, in Mississippi, to the late John D. and
Hattie (Kimble) Gray. He is survived by two daughters: Anita (Tim) Reed and
Kristie (Mike) Serino; and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was
precede in death by a brother, Paul Gray. Funeral service was Wed, Feb 13, 2008

DeSoto, passed away February 10, 2008 in DeSoto. She was born November 29,
2007 in Crystal City, Missouri; the second child of Stephen and Stephanie (Settlemoir) Joedicke,
Jr. Lilli Ann is survived by her parents, a sister, Abigail all of DeSoto;
Grandparents: Steve and Linda Joedicke, Sr., Steve and Melba Settlemoir, all of
DeSoto; Debbie and Mike Cain, of Cadet; Great Grandparents: Roseann and

pipefitter and a member of plumbers and pipefitters Local 562, U S Navy veteran
and a member of Eagles Aerie 4341. Born July 2, 1939, in Red Bud, IL, to the
late Eldred and Frieda (Chaudet) DeRousse. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Lalla)
DeRousse; two sons: Daniel Williams and David (Kelli Jennings) Williams; two
daughters: Michel DeRousse and Lisa Allen; and four grandchildren: Hunter, Javon,

truck driver for Yellow Transit for over 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters
Local 600. Born Aug 19, 1931, in Rushtower, MO, t o the late Woodrow and Lucille
(Hays) McDonald. He is survived by three sons: Michael Ray McDonald, Terry
Joseph McDonald, David Allen McDonald; one daughter, LeAnn Joyce McDonald; two
brothers: Woody McDonald and Robert Dennis (Kim) McDonald; five sisters:

83, of Hillsboro, passed away on February 14, 2008, in Hillsboro. Mrs.
Poncet was a homemaker and a member of DeSoto Amvets Post 48 Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed reading, puzzles, crocheting and roller skating. Born January
21, 1925, in Granite City, Illinois, she was the daughter of the later Albert H.
and Rachel M. (Lucas) Westphal. She was preceded in death by her husband
Aime Thomas Poncet. She is survived by five sons: Dennis (Fay) Poncet of
DeSoto, Russell (Barbara) Poncet of Hillsboro, Doyle (Mary Ann) Poncet of DeSoto,
Thomas (Debbie) Poncet of DeSoto and Kenneth (Sheila) Poncet of DeSoto;
one daughter< Beverly Ann Bryant of Farmington; 19 grand children and 21
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Geraldine McCord
and Virginia Marmion and one son-in-law, Eric Bryant. Funeral services were held
February 18, 2008 at Mahn Funeral Home, DeSoto Chapel, officiated by the Rev.
Gene Moses. Burial was in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Hillsboro.

69, of Bismarck, formerly of DeSoto, passed away February 15, 2008 in Crystal
City. Mr. Gilbreath was a farm laborer and volunteered with food pantries
in the St. Louis area. Born September 29, 1938 in Shook, Missouri; he was
the son of the late James Thomas and Liza Jane (Osborne) Gilbreath. He is
survived by his wife, Geraldine (Watson) Gilbreath of Bismarck; three s ons:
Andy Gilbreath of Mt. Vernon, Paul Gilbreath of Mt. Vernon and Billy Gilbreath
of Londell; one daughter, Donna Hillis of Poplar Bluff; one brothers, Clarence
Gilbreath of Londell; three sisters: Beulah Nunn of St. Louis, Doris
(Bob) Morey of Williamsville and Sue (Harold) Kelsoe of Williamsville; a
stepson, Johnny Franklin of Poplar Bluff and several grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by two brothers: David Gilbreath and Phillip Gilbreath, one

at the Festus Police Dept for over 30 years. She was a member of Harrison-Cook
American War Mothers and a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E.Church. Born March 27,
1934, in St Louis, to the late Orban Wells and Loretta (Bingham) Barnes. She is
survived by two sons; Thomas Wells and Marvin Wells; two daughters: Marilyn
Slaughter and Tonya Bland; one sister, Marie (Donald) Johnson; 8 grandchildren;
12 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a
step-brother, Sherman Barnes; a sister, Delores Parks; and step-father, Josh

Todd E. Kearbey, age 50, of Dittmer Missouri,
passed away on Thursday February 14, 2008, in St Louis Missouri. He was born
April 27, 1957, in Granite City IL. Todd was a Maintenance Technician for St
John’s Hospital and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Todd and his wife Sharon were

56, of DeSoto passed away February 17, 2008 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in
Crystal City. Mrs. Schuster worked at Don Schunk Chrysler-PLymouth.
She enjoyed dancing, fishing and going to the casino. Born September 16,
1951, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of James H. (Dolores J.) Vaughn of
DeSoto and the late Ima Jean (Scudder) Vaughn. In addition to her father and
stepmother, she is survived by her husband, Roger Schuster Sr. of DeSoto; two
sons: Roger Schuster Jr. of DeSoto and James Schuster of DeSoto; one daughter
Angela (Michael) Baer of Greenville, Illinois; one brother, James (Julie) D.
Vaughn of St. Charles and four grandchildren: Summer, Alissa, Emalee and Hannah.
Funeral services were to be held February 21 at Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto,
officiated by Brother Mark Panagos. Burial was in Peaceful Ridge Mausoleum

HELEN C. DOUGLAS, 89, of DeSoto, passed away February 17, 2008, in DeSoto. Mrs. Douglas worked at a small arms plant during World War II; later she was employed with PPG Industries. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto and she enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and sewing. Born Feb 13, 1919, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late August and Mary M. (Hoezle) Bange. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest V. Douglas. She is survived by four sons: Thomas (Linda) Douglas of Edwardsville, Illinois; Robert (Carol) Douglas of Columbus, Ohio; James (Janet) Douglas of St. Louis and Michael (Julie) Douglas of St. Louis; one daughter, Elizabeth (Norm) Douglas of Chicago; one brother, John (Dorothy) Bange of California; one sister, Sr. Rita Cascia Bange SSND of St. Louis; five grandchildren: Timothy, Matthew, Cassie, Michaela and Kristen and three great-grandchildren: Ashley, Sabrina and Kevin. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Herman Bange, George Bange and Frank Bange; and three sisters: Sr. Rosalie Bange SSND, Mary Bange and Ann Tribout. LEE DORA DELANEY,
85, of DeSoto passed away February 19, 2008, in DeSoto. Mrs. Delaney was a
homemaker and a member of South Side Assembly of God Church in St. Louis County,
where she led a Bible study group. She also was a member of Children's
Home Society and the Red Hat Society. Born April 2, 1922, in Fort Smith,
Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ethyl (Lloyd) Farrow. She
is survived by her husband of 63 years, John H. Delaney of DeSoto; three
daughters: Julie (Tom) Flanagan of DeSoto and Laura Delaney and Mary (Kim)
Andersson, both of Redding, California; six grandchildren: Richard
(Kirsten) Dreese, Garrett Dreese, Kirstin (Paul) David, Ryan Andersson, Grant
Andersson and Delaney Andersson; and four great-grandchildren: Kyle Dreese,
Alisha Dreese, Christian David and Ethan David. Memorial services were held in
Redding, California. Burial was in the Jefferson Barracks National

St. Louis County. Mr. Helle was an electrician with M.R. Bathe Electric.

Louis and the late Mary (Combs) Helle. In addition to his father, he is

Phillip Bone,
51, of DeSoto, passed away February 21, 2008 in St. Louis. Mr. Bone was a
carman for the Missouri Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the
National Rifle Association, Carmen's Union and St. Rose o f Lima Catholic
Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born September 24, 1956, in
Bonne Terre, he was the son of Betty (Portell) Bone of DeSoto and the late
Orville "Duddy" Bone. He is survived by four brothers: Kent Bone of Cadet,
Robert (Shelia) Bone of Festus, Mike Bone of DeSoto and Charlie (De Ronda) Bone
of Festus; three sisters: Beverly Bone of St. Louis County, Barbara (Shawn)
Reece of Festus and Bunnie Courtois of DeSoto; and six nieces and nephews:
Corey, Colby, Jaclyn, Wesley, Cole and Clay. Funeral services were held February
26, 2008 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, officiated by Father Ron Hopmeir.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in DeSoto. Memorials may be made to the

Fletcher passed away February 23, 2008, in St. Louis. Mr. Maddox was a
union painter and a fisherman. Born September 23, 1940, in Arkansas, he
was the son of Mattie Marie (Alsup) Maddox of Fletcher and the late Thomas
Wesley Maddox, Sr. In additional to his mother, he also is survived by three
daughters: Kathy and Kimberly Maddox both of Illinois and Tonya Maddox of
St. Louis; three brothers: Bill (Kathy) Maddox and Jack Maddox, all of St.
Louis, and Larry (Karen) Maddox of Fletcher; three sisters: Mattie McMinn
of Fletcher, Gracie Chambers of St. Louis and Patricia (Larry) Craden of Cedar
Hill; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother,
James Maddox; and a brother-in-law, Randy McMinn. Funeral services will be held
at 10a.m. February 28, 2008 at Mahn Funeral Home, DeSoto Chapel. Rev.
Bruce Valle officiated services. Burial was in the Oakland Baptist
