James Leroy Bingham, 65, of Festus passed away on August 20, 2008 at Festus Manor.  Mr. Bingham was a CMT with Festus Manor for 10 years, and had worked previously at Cori Manor and Scenic View Center.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former Ward 1 Crystal City Councilman.  Born July 29, 1943, in Crystal City, he is the son of the late Raymond and Lillie Mae (Clay) Bingham. He is survived by one son, James A. "Jamie" Deaton of Festus; two daughters: Rebecca Cowan of Festus and Tosha (George) Ware of Imperial; four brothers: Vincent Bingham of Festus, William (Grace) Bingham of Crystal City, Thomas Clay of Illinois and Zach Clay of Illinois; and three grandchildren: Gabrielle, Isabelle and Joshuwah. He was preceded in death by one sister, Denise Bingham. Funeral services were held August 23, at Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Charles Robinson.  Burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.  Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.

Arthur N. Schmitt, 95, of DeSoto passed away August 21, 2008 in DeSoto.  Mr. Schmitt worked as a bricklayer and was a realtor with Farm and Home.  He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto; a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and life member and Gold Card pin recipient with the Bricklayers Union.  Born August 23, 1912, in St. Louis; he was the son of the late Arthur and Katherine Schmitt.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Corette A. Schmitt. He is survived by four daughters: Donna (Norvel) Ott of DeSoto; Janet (Frank) Bodlovic of Bonner, Montana; Janice (Ron) Frank and Tricia Brauch, both of California, MO; one brother, Elmer Schmitt of DeSoto; two sisters: Virginia Coleman of DeSoto and Ruth Klittich of St. Louis; his companion, Eva Beckham; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by four brothers:  Walter Schmitt, Quintin Schmitt, Raymond Schmitt and Russell Schmitt; two sisters: Helen Breihan and Alice Daniely; and one grandson, Nicholas Ott.Funeral services were held August 25 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in DeSoto; officiated by the Rev. Ron Hopmeir.  Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in DeSoto.  Memorials amy be made to the Adopt an Angel program at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School or Birthright.  Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto.
