James A. Blanks, Sr, 65 of Crystal City entered into rest Sept 1, 2011 at JRMC in Crystal City. Born March 1, 1946, in Jefferson City, MO, to the late Albert & Dorothy (Carter) Blanks. He was retired from Chrysler Corp; he was a US Army veteran who had served in Vietnam.  Survived by wife, Cassandra (Bland) Blanks; sons: Shawn Blanks and James A. Blanks, Jr; daughter, Jill (Michael) Wyms; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Service was Sat, Sept 10,2011 at Mahn Twin City Chapel, Festus. Burial was in Peaceful Ridge Mausoleum in DeSoto.

Clifford J. Sewald, age 98, of Bloomsdale, Missouri, passed away September 1, 2011 at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 10, 1913 in Kinsey, Missouri the son of the Joseph and Louise (nee Poggemeller) Sewald. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Sister Hilda (the late Ben) Roth and Brothers Raymond Sewald and Christian Sewald. He is survived by nieces Dorothy L. (the late Charles) Dutton and Mary Ann (the late John) Muellersman. Great-nieces Donna M. Burkart and Teresa Davis. Great-nephews Thomas C. (Resa) Dutton, James (Sandy) Muellersman, Joseph (Dehlia) Muellersman and Robert Muellersman. Great-great-nephews Matthew Burkart, Stevie Joe Davis, James P. Dutton, Jeffrey T. (Becki) Dutton and James Muellersman, Jr. Great-great-nieces Ana, Elsa and Karalyna Muellersman, Anastasia Burkart and the late Michelle Burkart. Numerous relatives and friends. He was a member of the St. Anne Church in French Village. He served with the elite 362nd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force in World War II. Howard "Bebop" Townsend, Jr., 80, entered into rest on September 2, 2011 at his DeSoto residence. He was born April 15, 1931 in DeSoto; he was the son of the late Howard and Rhoda (Scott) Townsend, Sr. Mr. Townsend worked in maintenance at the Jefferson County Court House in Hillsboro. He was a member of the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Festus and a member of the Festus American Legion Post #48. He loved the Dallas Cowboys. He had attended the Langston Grade School and graduated from Douglas High in 1950. Mr. Townsend is survived by brothers, Clyde Townsend of Kansas City, KS, Donald Townsend of Bonne Terre, MO and a sister,Carol Shores of DeSoto, MO. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Sylvester Townsend, Walter Townsend, Donnell Townsend and Leroy Townsend and three sisters, Anna Townsend, Etta Cockrell and Dorothy Thomas. Robert N. Walker, age 88 of De Soto, MO, passed away Sept. 3, 2011 at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Center, Festus, MO. He was a retired Brake Press Operator for the Missouri Pacific Railroad after 36 years. Born Oct. 5, 1922 in De Soto, MO,  he was the son of the late Troy & Elsie (nee Bequette) Walker. He is survived by his Wife of 57 Years: Margie (nee Bayer) Walker; Children: Robert Alan “Al” Walker – De Soto, MO, Renee (Paul Faulkner) Evans – De Soto, MO, Darla (Joey) Finch – De Soto, MO, Darlene Pizzo – Hillsboro, MO; Brothers & Sisters: Myrtle Hopson – De Soto, MO Preceded in death by one brother: Lester “Piggy” Walker; Grandchildren: several; Great Grandchildren: several. James W. Nelson, 81 of Lonedell, entered into rest on September 5, 2011 in Pacific, Missouri. He was born in Poplar Bluff on July 7, 1930; he was the son of the late James R. and Flossie (Daley) Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, JoAnne (Bauers) Nelson. He was a paint maker for Glidden Paint and Banner Paint; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Nelson of Irondale and Anna Nelson of Lonedell; a brother, Henry Nelson of St. Louis; a grandchild, Eric (Becky) Hollowell; four great-grandchildren: Danielle, DJ, Amber and Steve; a great-great-grandchildren, Daiten and Baby Zo; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Tom, Noble, Warren, Ruth, Helen, Mary and Ruby. Rev. Brian Law will be officiating the memorial service. Jean Charlotte Meinz, age 78, of Festus, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Missouri.  She was born November 25, 1932 in Festus, the daughter of the late Clarence Hanson and the late Myrtle (nee Ritchey) Hanson Skaggs Perry. She is survived by her husband Melvin Meinz and sons Alfred C. “Rob” Meinz of Festus and Wayne T. Meinz of Potosi, Missouri.  She is preceded in death by an infant son Vernon Lee Mienz and two sisters Helen Dueringer and Joyce Rhodes. Visitation at 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, Pevely, Missouri.  Then at her church, Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 9, 2011.  Interment to follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, officiated by her pastor Rev. Dr. W. Elinore Lorraine Miller, age 93 of Festus, Missouri passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Center in Crystal City, Missouri. She was born May 20, 1918 in Festus the daughter of the late Cora Josephine (nee Kiefer) and Frank Joseph Wehner. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Edward Miller, a sister Lucille LaRose and her husband Jesse and a great-great granddaughter Emma. She is survived by sons Robert C. Miller and wife Carol of Osage Beach, Missouri, Joseph E. Miller and wife Patricia of DeSoto, Missouri, Vincent P. Miller and wife Debra of Arnold, Missouri, a brother Paul Wehner and wife Louise of Festus, nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a homemaker, active in Our Lady’s Parish organizations, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and Troop 425 Scout Mother’s Club.  She was known for her generosity, she would prepare fantastic cakes and apple squares for any charity event that needed desserts. A memorial mass will be held at Church of Our Lady, Festus at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 25, 2011.  Memorials preferred to Masses, Childhood Leukemia Research or the Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. Miller donated her remains to St. Louis School of Medicine in the hope that others could benefit from her passing.

Russell J. Woolem, age: 88, of Festus, Missouri, passed away September 6, 2011 in Park Hills, MO. He was a Delivery Truck Driver. Born March 10, 1923 in Ironton, Missouri, he was the Son of the late Jess and Ollie (nee Hampton) Woolem. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his Wife the late Sadie Woolem; Siblings: Norman Halbrook, Alvin Woolem, Melvin Woolem, Zola McCloskey, Opal Whited, and Pauline Hair. Linda Sue Lauber, 63 of St. Louis, (formerly of Hillsboro, MO) entered into rest Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in St. Louis. She was born March 19, 1948 in St. Louis; the daughter of the late Robert and Wanda (Waters) Kempff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Lauber. Linda was a homemaker; she enjoyed painting, making jewelry and loved her family dearly. Survived by her loving family which includes a daughter, Chandra (Jarrod) Fraser of Chicago, IL; brother, David (Mary) Kempff of Maryland Heights, MO; and three grandchildren: Michael (Ali) Fraser, Imperial, Alex Fraser and Joshua Fraser, both of Chicago, Il. Earl "Melvin" Nichols, III, age 31, entered into rest at his DeSoto residence on Thursday, September 8, 2011. He was born on November 20, 1979, in Portland, Oregon, to Earl Nichols, Jr and Sarrah (Anderson) Berry. He is survived by his parents; a stepfather, Cale Berry of DeSoto, his fiancee, Hannah Smith of DeSoto, a son, Ashton Nichols; 3 daughters: Maceighla, Ciera & Paiton (who has yet to be born); grandparents, Rich & Barb Berry of DeSoto; grandfather, Earl Nichols, Sr of Oregon; brothers: Micky (Kaci) Sansoucie and Austyn Sansoucie both of DeSoto; sisters: Angel (Jason) Coats and Shayla Sansoucie both of DeSoto; nephews: Kenny & Jason Coats & Sylis Sansoucie; and niece, Savannah Sansoucie.
Melvin worked as a hod carrier and worked through the Bricklayer's Union Hall. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching movies and playing video games. He was retired from the scrap hauling business and he was president and founder of Kruiser's Car Club, member of the original Coachmen Car Club, Rod & Custom's Car Club and Obsolete Truck Club. Born Sept 18, 1949 in St Louis, to the late Melvin "Max" & Irene (Smith) Schnelting. Survived by his wife, Mary (Frattini) Schnelting; sisters: Barbara (Bob) Mueller and Pat (Bob) Jekel; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was born January 10, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Mary June (nee Brower) and William Ray Smith, Sr. He is survived by his wife Martha (nee Wagner) Smith, daughters Joy Lee Schilling and husband Michael “T.J.” of Festus, Missouri, Mary Kate Smith of Herculaneum, brothers: William R. Smith, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Festus, Missouri, D. Mark Smith and wife Judy of Crystal City, Jeffrey N. Smith and wife Patricia of Nixa, Missouri, Paul G. Smith and wife Barb of Festus, Thomas E. Smith and wife Sherrie of Farmington, Missouri, sisters Cathy Uding and husband Gary of Festus, Barbara Hanna of DeSoto, Missouri and a granddaughter Kailey Renee Dempsey.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tony Hanna. James David Bradford, Sr., 68, entered into rest on Monday, September 12, 2011 in Hillsboro. He was born November 7, 1942, in St Louis, MO, to the late James C. and Josephine (Rapp) Bradford. He was a truck driver for Schnucks and a veteran of the United States Army. He loved riding his Harley and enjoyed archery, hunting and was a member of Teamster Local 610. Survived by a son, James D. (Sandy) Bradford, Jr; four sisters: Janet (James) Pleimann of St. Charles, Joyce (Mike) Tempesta of St. Peters, Barbara Bradford and Phyllis Dahm, both of St. Charles; and seven grandchildren. He is retired from General Motors and played the guitar with the "Country Four" band. Born October 1, 1934, in Ste Genevieve, Missouri, to the late Gilbert & Laverne (Ruh) Linderer. He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 51 years, Sadie (McDonald) Linderer; son, James D. Linderer of Festus, daughter, Connie (Daniel) Plyler of Festus; sister, Georgene (Jess) Drury of Mulkeytown, IL; 4 grandchildren: Aaron, Beau, Dietrich and Greta; and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.   Eileen L. (Prokopf) Liverar, age 93, of DeSoto, entered into rest at Hillcrest Nursing Center on Thursday, September 15, 2011. She was born on January 25, 1918, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late Edward and Mamie (Boyer) Prokopf. She was a bookkeeper for E. C. Robinson Lumber Company in DeSoto and was married to Clyde Liverar on December 17, 1946 until his death on May 16, 1995. She enjoyed reading and praying and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Eileen is survived by her loving family, which includes sons: Clyde (Charlotte) Liverar of DeSoto and Joseph (Kathylen)Liverar of Festus; daughter, Barbara (Vincent) Orf of St. Louis; sisters: Mary E. Boyer of Potosi and Marilyn Witte of Arizona; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Edward Sternad, and two brothers: Frank and Edward Prokopf and a grand-son, Eddie Sternard. Lillian Eugenia “Jeannie” St. John, age 75, of Festus, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County, Missouri.  She was born January 4, 1936, in Wren, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Dessie Eugenia (nee Gallop) and Macon “Moore” Rankin.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Jackie O. “Jack” St. John. She is survived by two daughters, Debra Lynn Hardin and husband the Rev. Steve of Washington, Illinois and Denise Lee Moreland and husband Fred of Union, Missouri, a grandson Christopher Andrew Hardin, a granddaughter Amy Elizabeth Hardin, and countless brothers and sisters, not by birth, but by second birth through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Anna Mae Browning, age 101, of Crystal City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Windsor Estates in Camdenton, Missouri.  She was born February 20, 1910 in Memphis, Missouri, the daughter of Lew and Ada Smith.  She was the youngest of five children.  Her sisters Leitha, Edna, Esther and one brother, Harold, all predeceased her. Anna Mae attended William Woods College and then graduated from the University of Missouri.  She taught at Crystal City and elsewhere for over 40 years.  Many of her former students remember her creative approach to teaching science, her kind and friendly nature, and her mentorship over the years.  Her close friends recall her love of card games, fishing, traveling, and particularly her bridge-club gatherings.  She was an enthusiastic bridge player and continued to enjoy and participate in the game well into her 90’s with her close friends. She was a long-time member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City, where she enjoyed the companionship and fun of the women’s group as they organized fund-raising events.  She especially loved children and touched the lives of many who remember her fondly as “Mrs. Browning”, or “Aunt Anna Mae”.  She was another mom, grandmother, aunt, best friend or role model for many. In 1940, she married Paul Browning who coached at Crystal City and taught math for over 35 years.  He predeceased her in 1994.  While they had no children, they enjoyed visits with nieces and nephews who lived in various U.S. locations.  During the last 6 years, she resided in Camdenton, Missouri at Lake of the Ozarks. Her life was one of giving to others, bringing joy to those close to her, and making every person in her life feel very special. Visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. He is survived by sons Dennis Schumer, Sr. of Hillsboro, Missouri, Mark Schumer and wife Karen of Chambersberg, Pennsylvania, daughters Shannon Propst and husband Don of Festus, Terry Chapman and husband Leonard of Festus, a daughter-in-law Julia Schumer of Hillsboro, sisters Nora Peterein of Festus, Betty Basler of Festus, Agnes Talken and husband Raymond of Festus, 17 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren. He was a retired truck driver from McClay Concrete, member of Sacred Heart Church, Crystal City, Missouri, member of the VFW Post #3777, American Legion Post #253 and Knights of Columbus Council #1230. Visitation Vinyard Funeral Home, Festus, Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  Funeral Mass Monday, October 3, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church, Crystal City at 3:00 P.M. officiated by Fr. Doyle E. Kirchner, Sr., 62, of Cadet entered into rest on Friday, September 30, 2011 in St. Louis, MO. He was born January 9, 1949 in St. Louis; the son of the late Vernon E. and Myrtle (Drennen) Kirchner. Mr. Kirchner owned Kirchner Excavating Company. He enjoyed working with his hands and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was a member of the Jesus is the Answer Ministries in Old Mines. Doyle is survived by his children: Doyle E. Kirchner, Jr., Morse Mill, Sherry Kirchner, Dittmer, Vernon (Natasha) Kirchner, Cadet; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Darlene (Jim) McBride, Guthrie, OK and Mary Eckhoff, Cadet. William "Bill" Carl Fox, 81, of DeSoto, entered into rest in St. Louis on Friday, September 30, 2011. Born November 22, 1929 to the late John W. and Fanny (Martin) Fox in St. Louis, MO. He married his loving wife of almost 60 years, Joyce (LaChace) Fox in Pickett, Arkansas on November 24, 1951. He was a Korean veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He worked as a plant manager for Packet Dairy, O'Fallon, IL until his retirement; he enjoyed fishing, traveling, RVing, Senior Services at Church and playing horseshoes with his boys. He loved worshiping God and he liked doing the bus ministry. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, sons; Gary (Deborah) Fox, Festus, MO, Michael (Karen) Fox, Fenton, MO; daughters; Sheila (Jerry) Croston, Foley, AL, Joyce (Darrel) Duncan, Defiance, MO, Linda (Tom) Akers, Seminole, OK,and Ronda (David) Verrett, Columbia, IL; sister, Donna Henthorne, Wentzville, MO and a daughter-in-law, Paula Robinson,Sheridan, WY; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bill Fox and a brother and sister-in-law, Theadore and Shirley Fox. The service will be officated by Pastor Rudy Theissen and Pastor Tim Theissen.
