John Robert Richards, age 75, formerly of Festus, entered into rest April 1, 2013 at Big River Nursing Center, Cedar Hill, Missouri. He was a retired sheet operator for McDonnell-Douglas Corp; a U.S. Army veteran and member of Amvets Post #48. He was born October 20, 1937, in St Louis, to the late Tillman and Ida (Koester) Richards. Survived by daughters: Barbara Dothage of Wentzville and Sandra Maxwell of Lake Saint Louis; grandson, Adam Daubach of Lake Saint Louis; and close friend, Betty Matheisk of Festus. Graveside service was held on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 1:15pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Pastor Jim Owens will officiate service.

Teresa Marie (Bender) DeCou, age 80, entered into rest April 2, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in St Louis. Born July 28, 1932, in St Louis, to the late Sylvester and Edna (Paluskas) Bender. She is survived by her loving family which includes daughters: Toni (David) Carron of South Carolina, Bert (Charlie) Kelly of Festus and Yvonne (Kevin) Frigerio of Festus; brother, Sylvester (Linda) Bender, Jr of Farmington; sister, Sylvia (Ray) Lynn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: John, Michelle, Anthony, Keisha, Justin and Jared; great grandchildren: Alex, Mady, Sage, Kai, Parker, Xavier and Dominiq. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. DeCou. She was retired from Riverview Manor as a nurses aid; she was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an English and Art teacher at Hillsboro R-III Public District until her retirement. Janice was born on June 28, 1949 in Bliss, Missouri to the late Homer L. Warden and Lucille (Merseal) Warden of DeSoto. She is survived by her loving family, sons, Adam Litton of St. Louis and Chris Litton of Springfield, MO, brothers, Lawrence Glennon Warden of St. Peters, Francis "Bud" (Gail) Warden of St. Louis, and Kevin (Terri) Warden of DeSoto, sisters, Peggy (Joe) Michaels of Farmington, Brenda (Mike) Wilson of Festus, Diane (Brad) Koogler of Festus, and loved by many nieces and nephews. Mel was a 1990 graduate of De Soto High School where he was a National Merit Scholar and Bright Flight Scholarship recipient. After graduating from Washington University Mel went to work for Edward Jones, St. Louis, MO as a financial analyst and then started his own company ClaroConnect.com; he was also owner of Central West End Crossfit and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Born April 1, 1972 in Cottonwood, AZ he was the Son of Mike and Debra (nee Owens) Marten, Steamboat Springs, CO. Dr Philip Mitchell "Chip" Rowden, age 39, entered into rest Friday, April 19, 2013 at his Herculaneum residence. He opened his medical practice in Hillsboro in 2002 and expanded his practice with an office in DeSoto; he was also the resident physician for local nursing homes. Born February 11, 1974, in Crystal City, to Mitchell and Ruth (Almond) Rowden of Hillsboro. In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 16 years, Shannon (Rudin) Rowden; sons: Jordan M. Rowden, Trenton R. Rowden and Braden M. Rowden; daughter, Kaci J. Rowden; brother, Nicholas (Rachel) Rowden of Festus; sister, Corinna (Rich) Kremmer of Okawville, IL; and mother and father-in-law, Rev Albert "Chip" and Connie Rudin of Herculaneum. Dr Rowden was medical director of Amhart Hospice, Blue Thunder baseball coach, district Quiz Director at his Church and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had worked at Doe Run Corp and was a member of Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as an usher; he loved sports and was an avid Cardinals and Rams fan. He holds the 100 meter track record at Festus and played softball for the Rough Riders. Born May 12, 1957, in St Louis, to the late Charles Bisch and Ruth (Culton) Bisch of Festus. Louis Donald “Duck” Arndt, Age: 77, of  Hillsboro, Missouri, passed away April 24, 2013  in Springfield, Illinois. He was a Telephone Line Installer for Perkin. Born October 16, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, he was the Son of the late Louis and Daisy (nee Eaton) Arndt. He is survived by his Wife: Ellen Fay (nee Graham) Arndt, Hillsboro, MO (preceded in death by one son, Donald Leroy Arndt); Two sisters: Edith “Mitzi” (Byron) Byers, De Soto, MO; Sandra “Sandy” (John Maness) Paul, De Soto, MO, Brother-in-law: John (Fonda) Graham, Festus, MO ( preceded in death by siblings, Leroy Arndt, Muriel Rupkey, Allen “Budz” Arndt and Mary Jo Arndt; step-brother, Bob Arndt), Grandchildren: Donald Wayne Arndt. She was a Nurses Aid at a Nursing Home. Born August 26, 1930 in  Cherryville, MO, she was the Daugher of the late Bryan and Ada (nee Good) Howdeshell. She was also preceded in death by her Husband, the late Joseph W. Copeland. Robert Wayne Mitchell, age 65,(formerly of Crystal City) entered into rest Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Fountainbleau Nursing Center, Festus. He had been employed at St Gobain Glass in Pevely; he was a member of Mississippi River Eagles and Elks Lodge 1721. He enjoyed collecting hot wheels, woodworking and shooting guns. Born March 5, 1948, in St Louis, to the late Clifford and Edna (Stuthers) Mitchell. He is survived by his loving family which includes his son, Jeffrey Mitchell of Festus; daughter, Cynthia (Alan) Turner of Festus; brother, Bruce Mitchell of Festus; and grandchildren: Alexis and Brayden Turner. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 10am at Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus. Visitation Tuesday from 4-8pm. Interment Horine Cemetery in Richwoods. W. Kathleen Kemp-Hawkins, 85 years, Hillsboro, entered into rest on April 29, 2013 in Crystal City. She was in an administor capacity for the Jefferson County Animal Control. She was a member of the Desoto Amvets Ladies Auxiliary; she liked traveling and fishing but not baiting her own hook. Born June 19, 1927 in Cairo, Illinois; she was the daughter of the late D.A. Tommy Parkman and Lillian (nee Burton) Parkham. Her husband, Ed Kemp had preceded her in death. Kathleen was the mother of Thomas D. Kemp of Hillsboro and Judy K. (Gary C.) Johnson of Festus; grandmother of Mindy, Tracy, Nick, Christine, Amanda and Joshua; and great-grandmother to Mariah, Michael, Joshua, Emilina and Madilynne. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Dean F. Kemp and Edward L. Kemp. Visitation: Date: Friday, May 3, 2013. Time: 4:00pm - 8:00pm.
